Pet Ultrasound

Ultrasound allows our team to deliver a higher standard of care by giving us the means to view your pet’s abdominal organs and heart in astounding detail. With the aid of soundwaves, ultrasound is able to create real-time moving images of the internal organs that our team can view on a screen. This painless, non-invasive procedure can show us the liver, spleen, kidneys, and gallbladder, and even help us safely monitor pregnancies.

Pet ultrasound is valuable in the monitoring and treatment of certain types of cancer, and it is also useful for evaluating the heart and detecting heart defects. If we suspect your pet may have a heart condition, we might need to perform an ultrasound to find out more. Our team can work with a board-certified radiologist for same-day radiology readings.

Digital Radiology

A radiograph, or X-ray, is an image produced with the aid of radiation. At Sahara Pines Animal Hospital, we use digital X-ray equipment, which produces less radiation than film X-ray and generates higher-quality images of the bones, joints, heart, lungs, and abdominal organs.

With digital radiography, we can painlessly view specific areas in your pet that may need treatment. X-ray images can provide us with information about your pet that blood work and a physical exam can’t, such as intestinal blockages, heart, kidney, and liver disease, tumors, arthritis, bladder stones, broken bones, and potentially even diseases of the spinal cord.

In-House Blood Testing

To thoroughly assess your pet’s health, we rely on our in-house laboratory equipment. At Sahara Pines Animal Hospital, we recommend routine screening tests to detect underlying signs of disease before the disease itself is clinically apparent. This allows us to pursue prompt treatment for your pet, with the goal of helping them live a longer, healthier life.

We offer the following tests to evaluate your pet’s condition on a regular basis:

  • Baseline blood profile: A small blood test that checks your pet’s internal organ health
  • Annual health profile: A blood test that checks your pet’s red and white blood cell counts, and a more comprehensive internal organ screen to check for certain health conditions
  • Senior health profile: A comprehensive internal organ screen that includes thyroid testing, electrolytes, red and white blood cell counts, and urine specific gravity
  • Golden years health profile: A comprehensive internal organ screen that includes thyroid testing, electrolytes, and red and white blood cell counts
